Professional Experience
Marketing Manager
Jun 2019 - Mar 2020
Transitioned from first marketing hire, where I managed zero people, to marketing manager, where I led over 10 people across different marketing functions. Since I built the marketing foundation as the first marketing hire, the next logical step was to take it to the next level by building a team. Even though this part of my marketing career was challenging, it was the most fun and rewarding. In the end, I walked away with a better understanding of high-impact marketing strategies, the different challenges marketing teams face, and a deeper passion for marketing.
Marketing Coordinator
Nov 2018 - May 2019
Became the first marketing hire and executed all marketing plans. By actually creating campaigns and analyzing their results, I gained a considerable amount of knowledge about different types of marketing including growth marketing and content marketing for both B2C and B2B audiences. Acquisition channels I focused on include email, SEO, social media, paid media, and some PR. Types of companies I marketed for include e-commerce businesses, foodservice brands, customized promotional products, and internet-based businesses i.e. blogs or affiliate websites. Through this experience, I developed a strong foundation for T-shaped marketing by getting my hands dirty and scaling marketing processes.
Projects
nickntran.com
Mar 2020 - Present
This is the website you’re on right now. I created this so that I can have everything I’m interested in, care about, and experienced — all in one place. Some things you’ll see are my résumé, books I’ve read, different apps/tools I recommend, articles I’ve recently read, blog posts, and more. A good place to start is here.
esportsmention.com
Dec 2019 - Present
Since middle school, I loved gaming and esports. And as the industry became bigger, I found myself becoming more interested in the industry from a business and marketing perspective. So, I wanted to create something that included both gaming and esports.
talkboba.com
Mar 2019 - Present
I learned a lot of new skills from my first marketing role and I wanted to take what I learned and apply it outside of work — so I created Talk Boba, the most engaging bubble tea and boba blog. Talk Boba helps you find the best boba places in your state, delicious boba recipes you can make at home, and more. What I’m most proud of is that I built it from the ground up and it engages with about 56,000 monthly visitors and is steadily growing month-to-month.
